Hurricane Katrina

We’ve been discussing the Katrina Hurricane tragedy in New Orleans since Tuesday, but yesterday was the longest conversation we’ve had here at work. I can’t believe that the government took a long time to help those poor people! I was reading this morning about what’s going on at the dome where the refugees are… and it is sooo devastating. Women are being raped, feces all over the place, no electricity, children sleeping on pools of urine. The buses that the government promised took forever to get there and it is very intermittent. People have no food, no water, very limited supplies. People are dying of starvation and dehydration. Soon, people will die because of the disease that will be triggered because of dead people all over the place, feces, urine. I can’t even imagine how it is to be there.

FEMA is having a hard time organizing and planning… so why are they called FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Aid) again????

I am an animal lover. So when I read the stories about the animals… it also broke my heart. During the evacuation to the Dome, the refugees were not allowed to take their pets, so they have no choice but to leave their pets at home. There was a seal that was swept inland by the waters… he got stuck inland so there was no sea water around. It was already weak so people tried to throw buckets of water to it. They could not lift the animal because it was really heavy and they have no means of moving it to the sea water. So they decided to just kill the poor seal!!!! They don’t have tranquilizers… all they have is a gun… pointed at the head of the poor thing… and put it out of its misery… mercy killing.
